Posted on: October 17, 2023 | Read Time: 5 minutes

Imagine a place where the phrase “just another Tuesday afternoon” doesn’t exist. Situated just north of The Palm Beaches on Florida’s Treasure Coast, Members at Sailfish Point lose the mid-week lull to the beauty of its exceptional par 72 Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course. This private club community on the southernmost tip of Hutchinson Island provides a dramatic golf experience from every hole as it stretches along the Atlantic Ocean. With five sets of tees ranging from 5,001 to 7,081 yards, this “island within an island” beckons residents of all skill levels to test their swing on the greens. Hear from four Members who share personal glimpses from their days on the course, providing insight into what makes this oceanfront course a hole-in-one experience like no other.

Sailfish Point’s greens are surrounded by almost every thinkable coastal landscape; the Atlantic Ocean provides a unique juxtaposition to the St. Lucie and the Indian Rivers for Members. Lush Bermuda grass fairways and greens blend with bold, high-flashed bunkers to ultimately lead to the signature 18th hole, nicknamed “Window to the Sea” for its view of the Atlantic Ocean. While the beautifully manicured course captures much attention on its own, Golf Director Victor Tortorici explains just exactly what it’s like from a personal birds-eye view.

“When you come up onto the 14th green, you get a beautiful view of the inlet, the Atlantic Ocean, and it’s just spectacular,” Tortorici exclaims. “Where Sailfish Point is located- on the tip of Hutchinson Island at this little point- the combined scenery and the wind create a different golf course almost every day you play it.”

For Member Nancy Zappala, it was the natural beauty that drew her to Sailfish Point. On this Audubon-certified course, there are many sights of egrets, herons, and wood storks- just to name a few. She and her husband remarked on the time they had to stop golfing and start taking pictures because there were about 200 ibis and ducks diving into the water.

“All of the plantings around the ponds are done with native plants that will bring even more wildlife,” says Zappala. “Your experience when you’re golfing is really a part of the natural wildlife environment. It’s just so beautiful. Water, birds, fish, turtles. It was like being in one of the most incredible nature preserves you’ve ever seen.”

A Course That’s Ready When Members Are

Sailfish Point values not only the aesthetic experiences of outdoor activities but also the accessibility and ease with which they exist for Members. No tee times mean no problems with getting out on the green whenever the mood strikes. If the ocean breeze is just right when Members get out of bed, no scheduling stress will deter friends and family from a quick putt.

Sailfish Point Member David Lusk cannot help but admit that this is a huge perk when it comes to private golf courses. “It’s the first time I’ve been at a club that didn’t have tee times”, Lusk points out. “I’ve belonged to several golf clubs and didn’t understand what it meant at first, but I absolutely love it. We accommodate group play organized with the pro shop at the same time. Almost any Member at any time can walk up to that tee box and get on the course almost immediately. It’s managed very effectively.”

Golf is just the beginning of the resort-style amenities that Sailfish Point offers. Members agree that life within this 532-acre waterfront community seems like a tropical vacation that never ends. As the center of activity, the Oceanfront Club includes dining venues, a pool, a spa, and seven HydroGrid tennis courts. As pickleball continues to grow in popularity, the Club in a truly innovative fashion transformed one of its tennis courts to make room for four new pickleball courts. Sailfish Point’s Marina and Yacht Club is also one of the largest privately owned marinas in Florida. It offers 84 slips that can accommodate vessels up to 125 feet in length with an additional 45 dry slips.

Member Dan Dreisbach finds great enjoyment in sharing his home here at Sailfish Point with his children and grandchildren when they come to visit. “Our kids cannot wait to be here,” says Dreisbach. “My daughter just loves to come down- she will be coming to play with my wife in the nine-hole invitational.” Though they are all spread throughout the state, his family is often brought together on the course. With four full-time teaching professionals, Sailfish Point facilitates lessons not only for residents but also for their families.

Florida’s Premier Private Oceanfront Community

Just a short drive away from historic Downtown Stuart, residents are close to a plethora of local boutiques, restaurants, and events to explore year-round.
