While swaying palms and Atlantic Ocean views are typical of South Florida beaches, resident Members at Sailfish Point never have to leave the golf course to enjoy those vistas. This private club community’s par-72 championship golf course stretches along the Atlantic Ocean and provides a dramatic golf experience from every hole. Designed by 117-time PGA tournament winner Jack Nicklaus, golf at Sailfish Point exceeds all expectations, including its recognition by Golfweek as one of the top residential courses in the country. Let’s take a closer look at what sets this legendary course apart from all others.
The “Window to the Sea”
Situated on a unique peninsula of land surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Indian River, and St. Lucie Inlet, Sailfish Point’s Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course combines natural beauty with PGA-level playability to provide a remarkable golf experience. Five sets of tees ranging from 5,001 to 7,081 yards allow players of all skill levels to enjoy the course. Lush Bermuda grass fairways and greens blend with bold, high-flashed bunkers to ultimately lead to the signature 18th hole, nicknamed “Window to the Sea” for its boundless view of the Atlantic Ocean. With a no tee time policy, Members are welcomed to pace themselves exactly how they would like, taking the time to enjoy the warm ocean breezes and observing the wildlife that surrounds them in this Audubon-certified sanctuary.
As Sailfish Point’s Director of Golf, Victor Tortorici agrees that the natural beauty of the course reigns supreme. “40 years ago, Sailfish Point was established to create a quiet, private getaway unlike any other,” shared Tortorici. “The golf course is the culmination of that experience. Along with the Window of the Sea only steps from shore, watching the sunset from the 14th green has resulted in many Memberships at Sailfish Point.”
40 Years of Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf
Since the course’s inception, internationally acclaimed golfer Jack Nicklaus has remained the only architect for Sailfish Point’s course. First built in 1981, this was the ninth signature course ever composed by Nicklaus and his team, showcasing the golf legend’s most intricately designed holes. With a design that has withstood the test of time, the course has undergone only two renovations in its career. The 2007 course renovation included a recontouring of all the areas around the greens as well as repaving the cart paths with aggregate cement.
Jack Nicklaus Spearheads $7 Million Golf Course Renovation
As the community celebrated its 40th birthday in spring 2021, the golf course underwent the biggest renovation since the course’s inception. The “reimagination” led once again by Nicklaus resulted in major changes that added additional playability and strategy. Five new sets of forward tees ranging from 5,001 to 7,081 yards ensures enjoyment for players of varying ages, abilities, and ambitions. Additionally, the Practice Areas were transformed to include two driving areas on the north and south ends, including innovative Trackman technology to further assist Members in their gameplay. The course reopened to rave reviews in December 2021.
“Our operations and agronomy teams work hard to maintain this course to championship standards, and the Nicklaus team’s design has truly withstood the test of time,” shared Tortorici. “Every blade of glass was replaced during the $7 million renovation by Jack Nicklaus of his course that he debuted back when a gallon of gas cost less than a dollar.”
An Unmatched Florida Community
Championship golf, however, is just the beginning of the innovative amenities this 532-acre waterfront community utilizes to create an unmatched Member experience. As the center of activity, the Oceanfront Club includes dining venues, a pool, a spa, and eight HydroGrid tennis courts. However, with the growing popularity of pickleball, the Club is expanding their paddle sports offerings to include a new pickleball court, with even more amenity expansions planned. Sailfish Point’s Marina and Yacht Club is also in a league of its own. Additionally, as one of the largest privately-owned marinas in Florida, the Sailfish Point Marina and Yacht Club offer 84 slips that can accommodate vessels up to 125 feet in length with an additional 45 dry slips.
This Florida sanctuary’s luxurious, quiet setting just off Hutchinson Island is something that cannot be replicated. Just a short drive away from the historic Downtown Stuart, residents are close to a plethora of local boutiques, restaurants, and events to explore year-round. Sailfish Point also benefits from its own private helipad, along with Stuart’s Witham Field and the Palm Beach International Airport to the south.
